Have you ever had just one of those days? One of those days where all you can see are the many exams or hours of work looming in the near future? One of those days where your truck gets stolen, your boss fires you, your house floods and your best friend’s cat dies while you were watching it because she was away on vacation? It is on one of these days where you would deny that such a thing as happiness exists, and many people wouldn’t blame you.
Don’t worry, there is hope, and it’s simple. After experiencing a day much like the one described above, I was miserable. It seemed that there was nothing that could make that day any better, or any worse, for that matter. However, while walking home to endure mounds of homework, I remember looking at the sky and seeing the most gorgeous sunset in the sky. This stimulated me to examine all of my surroundings. The air was warm, the smell of summer still lingered in the air, and the lake glittered and accentuated the wonderful sunset. Looking around and examining all of that natural beauty, it made me think that no matter what happens in life, this is something I could always count on. I took the long way home that day, and by the time I arrived at home to tell my woeful tale, I was able to tell it with a comical spin and being reduced to tears of laughter as opposed to misery when reflecting on my day.
No matter what trials you face, and if it seems that there is nothing going right, just go for a walk and unwind. Make yourself notice all of the beautiful things in life and this will help you realize that your life is beautiful and valuable as well. How could one deny that watching a thunderstorm electrify the night sky, a gust of wind take the many coloured leaves off the trees, a summer rain refresh the heated landscape, a beautiful sunny day, slowly falling snow, or all the beautiful sunsets, can stimulate happiness? When all you see is desperation and you face the biggest trials in life, take a moment to examine all of the beautiful things in life. Realize that sure, life can be a trial at times, but there is always beauty and happiness if you take a moment to look for it. So look around. Be happy.
