T’is the season to be jolly! I want to wish you a merry Christmas from the bottom of my heart! From now on our troubles will be out of sight! These are just some of the lyrics that people sing along with and belt out over the Christmas season. And it is no wonder that people seem to be at their happiest during the Christmas season. People seem jollier, and no one dares to be a Scrooge. There are the many exchanges of “Merry Christmas” to and from even strangers we have never met before, and people are donating to the Salvation Army, and a general feeling of good cheer spreads like a disease. In today’s society, it is almost impossible to escape the Christmas spirit. Perhaps people feel they need an excuse to spread general good cheer, and Christmas is that excuse.
There is no end to all of those Christmas carol’s being played over the radio, and nowadays, it is possible that these are the only songs that seem to have good clean lyrics. In the air, there’s a feeling of Christmas. People are hustling and bustling to hit the shopping malls, not for themselves or to support consumerism, but to buy gifts for other people! Christmas is truly a wonderful season.
There is no need to mention, also, that in general people stop to consider the true meaning of Christmas, outside of the gifts and Santa Clause. More people than ever crowd into churches on Christmas Eve to sing “Silent Night” by candlelight. Christmas is the season that reminds us that there is such thing as compassion and happiness and good will in this world and for that everyone is all the happier. Christmas forces you to examine this world of disaster, crime, corruption and money and see that that’s not all there is to it. This world is a place where people can be decent to one in another in the name of something bigger that unites us all. Christmas even catches those who aren’t religious, and they celebrate alongside with their “winter holiday” with just as much good cheer.
You walk along and see everyone just a little happier on account of Christmas and it makes even the most miserable of us aware that such a thing as happiness exists. You scheme about what you’re going to get your loved ones for Christmas, to get that perfect gift, and your face lights up even more than theirs when they rip the wrapping paper off it on Christmas morning. All problems are set aside on Christmas, and everyone deserves to happy on Christmas.
So spread the Christmas cheer. Don’t let this season die away. Join in the happiness, and you will have a wonderful time. Be merry. Be joyful and triumphant. Be jolly. Be happy.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish all a very merry, wonderful Christmas this year. I’m not just quoting lyrics when I say this:
PEACE ON EARTH GOOD WILL TO ALL!
