So you hate the winter? You wince at the idea of stepping outside in that sub zero weather to face that snow blizzard. You hate shovelling that driveway, getting your silly rear wheel drive vehicle stuck in a six foot snow bank, and freezing in general. This is probably the case, as it is the case of most people. It seems that no one likes these specific aspects of winter. I, myself, the one telling you to be happy, am guilty of this. However! The winter is full of the most amazing opportunities for crazy happiness.
Through virtue of snow, winter is my favourite season. The world can be such a fun place if you freeze it all, and cover it in a blanket of white fluffy stuff. And that sounds ludicrous, but think about all of the wonderful things you can do in the winter that you just couldn’t do if it weren’t freezing cold. So, I have compiled for you all of the things that you can do that will make you happy this winter. But note, all of these activities are really only fun if you are properly equipped against the cold. So dress warmly. Here is a good website that provides wonderful tips for staying warm in the cold weather. http://www.instructables.com/id/How_to_dress_warm_in_the_COLD_Snow/
1. Skiing and Snowboarding! So, after you dressed so you will not feel the bitter cold of the frozen atmosphere that allows for this kind of fun, hop on the nearest ski lift and have a fun filled day of skiing or snowboarding. I have experienced many days of fun at the mercy of a ski hill, and it’s a great thing to do with friends. If you can’t ski or snowboard, well I envy you, because I had a great time learning. And if you are experienced and already know what I’m talking about, you would agree with me that you would find exceptional happiness at a ski hill. So give it a try. Strap on some skis and point them downhill and see what kind of happiness you can come up with.
2. Snowing Someone! As evil as it sounds, it is SO fun. Have you ever looked out at all that snow, and just bundled up and went outside to play in it? You will have such good times. As juvenile as it sounds, just go tackle someone into a snow bank. It will give you an instant rush, plus the rush you will get from trying to dodge the vengeful recipient of said tackle. Just have a big snow fight. Snow balls, competition, just get outside with some friends or siblings and have fun with the fluffy stuff. Or if you were really adventurous, try out a football game or a soccer game out in the snow. The snow adds an element that recreates the sport.
3. Skate! I can’t skate. I am horrible at it and spend more time on my knees then my skates. Although, surprisingly, I still find it to be a wonderful activity. Especially on outdoor skating rinks, where you just skate or crawl around in the gently falling snow. Skating is a great activity to do with friends, and you will have an amazing time if you call up your buddies and go out to the rink. Plus, you get the added fun of time with your friends and the odd hot chocolate brake. If you were really adventurous, start up a game of tag, which is always fun on the ice, or even hockey.
4. Frosty the Snowman! That’s right. Build a snowman. It is so fun creating the snowy giants and dressing them up with that corn cob pipe and buttoned nose. My brothers and I always have our annual snowman building contest which is always great. There was one time where we filled our whole front yard with 28.5 snowmen, the .5 one being a bit of a calamity of a snow fight. Or even better, build a snow fort. Constructing a house out of snow can be a blast, and you will have a great time.
5. All Ya Need is Speed! And last but not least, my absolute favourite part of the winter. The wonderful invention of a snowmobile has made many a winter a great one. There’s nothing I crave more than my thumb on the throttle of a purring sled with a wide open space in front of me, or a winding trail that will take me who knows where. I remember racing across the ice with a good friend of mine, seeing who was willing to push the envelope a little more. That was amazingly fun. And then there are the trails, where you can pick a different destination every time and spend the entire day exploring on those wonderful snow machines. You have not lived until you have gone for a ride on a snowmobile!
So there you have it. The perfect recipe to turn the chill of winter into the thrill of winter! This winter, try all of these things out, and you will be happier for it. Get out in the cold. Throw some snow. Take advantage of the frozen world. Be happy. For more amazing things to do with your winter, check out these tips:
